It has been a long Chicago winter but spring is finally here! While the weather gets nicer outside, why not also take this time to make your living space shiny and bright? Cleaning your apartment will keep you more organized and productive and improve your physical and mental well-being!
Make A Plan
Figure out which room you want to tackle first, plan a start time and stick to it! Remember to also plan some restorative break times during your cleaning so you won’t get discouraged or overwhelmed — or just work on one room each day. Make a playlist to listen to and get to work: you can do this and you’ll be glad you did!
Cleaning Supplies
Make sure you have everything you’ll need before you start so you don’t get derailed and lose momentum halfway into your cleaning project. Consider trying all natural eco-friendly cleaning supplies. Many of the traditional supplies contain harsh chemicals.
Declutter
Now is the perfect time to take a look at your closet and get rid of items you haven’t used in the past year. Consider donating your unwanted clothes or other items to charity, rotating your winter clothes into storage, changing your bedding and flipping your mattress as well!
Dust First
Get your dusting out of the way first, working from the ceiling down to the floor. Make sure to dust your ceiling fan, light fixtures, blinds, vents and baseboards. Even if you hate dusting, you’ll feel better knowing the dust devils lurking in your apartment have been taken care of!
Get To Work
Now you’re ready to:
- Vacuum and shampoo carpets, mop floors
- Clean windows and sills
- Scrub bathtub and shower liner
- Clean out fridge and freezer, clean stovetop and oven
- Relax and enjoy your rejuvenated space
You did it! Take a break and admire your newly cleaned apartment, and maybe take this time to rejuvenate your space with some redecorating, artwork or houseplants.
